CW-C6000 Printers

Meet the Epson CW-C6000 Color Label Printers

The Epson CW-C6000 is a high-quality 4-inch color label printer available as either a Matte or Gloss printer and with either an auto-cutter or a peeler. With so many CW-C6000 models to choose from, it can be hard to decide which one is right for you. Below is a comprehensive overview of the Epson CW-C6000 and its various components to help you make the best decision.

Should You Choose the Matte or Gloss Version?

One of the first distinctions between the various models is that they come as either Matte or Gloss label printers. Matte and gloss refer to the black ink formulas and the labels you can use with the printer.

The two versions use different black inks formulated for their respective media types (matte or gloss). They use the same cyan, magenta, and yellow inks. Everything else about the printers is identical.

  • Matte labels are non-glossy and generally provide greater durability against water, oil, and chemicals than glossy labels. The Matte black ink produces darker blacks and richer images. If you intend to print GHS BS6509-compliant labels, the matte version is the better choice. While you could use the matte printer with glossy media by adjusting the printer driver to use cyan, magenta, and yellow ink to produce the color black, doing so wastes a lot more ink than using a dedicated black ink cartridge.
  •  Gloss labels have a shiny finish that helps make text and images stand out. The gloss black ink in the Epson CW-C6000 Gloss printers bonds better with glossy polyester, glossy polypropylene, and clear labels.

When deciding between an Epson CW-C6000 matte or gloss color label printer, consider the types of products you plan to label and choose accordingly.

For example, items containing oils, lotions, chemicals, and other liquids would benefit more from a matte version of the printer. Conversely, items that require vivid colors or must stand out on a shelf would be better suited for the gloss version.

What About the Auto Cutter versus Peeler Models?

In addition to coming in matte and gloss versions, the Epson CW-C6000 is also available with either an auto cutter (Epson CW-C6000A) or a peeler (Epson CW-C6000P). The auto cutter is designed for use with continuous label stock, allowing you to cut labels to size as they are printed.

The models with a peeler (Epson CW-C6000P Matte and Epson CW-C6000P Gloss) are typically used in manufacturing and shipping environments where "peel and present" labeling is required. The peeler pulls labels off the roll after printing and then presents them so the operator can peel them off and apply them to the product or package.

Epson CW-C6000 Ink Cartridges

The Epson CW-C6000 color label printer uses 4 individual fast-drying pigment-based inks (CMYK) resistant to smudging, fading, and water damage. The same cyan, magenta, and yellow ink cartridges are used in both the Matte and Gloss printers. However, the black CW-C6000 ink cartridges must match the version of the printer you choose. Thus, if you have the Epson CW-C6000 matte printer, you will need the matte black CW-C6000 ink cartridge; if you have the gloss printer, you will need the gloss black CW-C6000 ink cartridge.

Epson CW-C6000 Labels

The Epson CW-C6000 and TM-C7500 use the same size and types of labels. The CW-C6000 printer can hold label rolls that have a 3” core and between 6” to 8” OD rolls. The CW-C6000 can also use fan-folded labels that are fed from the rear of the printer. You could even use C6500 labels up to 4” wide with the CW-C6000 printer.

For best results, the labels used with the CW-C6000 should match the version of the printer you have. If you have the matte version, use matte labels; if you have the gloss version, use gloss labels. In addition, the pressure-sensitive labels must also match the printer’s media width and be compatible with pigment-based inks. The Epson CW-C6000 works with paper and synthetic label materials and is GHS BS5609 compliant when used with BS5609-compliant label materials certified for the printer.
